Philip Cox – life size papier mache figures

If you've ever visited Frogmore Paper Mill you will be familiar with a life size papier mâché figure of a newspaper seller, fondly known as Bert. He has been with us many years, frightened a few staff in the dark, been out on the road and visitors have a fascination for touching his teeth. 'Bert' is the work of renowned papier mâché artist Philip Cox, who bored one Christmas Day, is said to have started making his first figure out of the used wrapping paper. There began a lifetime career, making paper characters, such as tourists, old ladies taking tea, famous artists and animals. The works are now scattered throughout our main visitor displays... don't say we didn't warn you!
